I
arrived at Pender St and Seymour, saw the Valacey hair salon place,
and walked right in under the tribal infinity logo to find the oasis
of a tattoo shop, Infinity Ink!! They waved me in, so in I went!
I
was greeted kindly by the owner, Nick, who then introduced
me to the artist, Jeremy Glen. I told them I didn't have anything
drawn since I'm a crappy artist, but that was fine, as Jeremy was
quick to ask what it was I was thinking about getting, which was
a Tamara Something Picket painting, and had a pencil ready to take
notes and sketches.
Once
we talked and I began to feel more comfortable that he knew what
he was doing, we finalized a sketch and scanned it to the computer
to find the best size and color for the body part I wanted it on,
my soon to be sexy leg!
After
that, I took a deep breath as the "stencil" (a carbon copy
of the tattoo so the artist knows the lines and area were to tattoo)
was placed on my leg. This was it. I was nervous, but even the stencil
looked cool, and I've wanted this for long enough that I knew it
was not a spontaneous decision I was making. I was ready to become
a member of the tattoo community.
Before we began, Jeremy was kind enough to show me the whole process
so I would know what to expect. He explained that most shops don't
have single-use needles, but here they do, which was good to know.
He also explained the sterilization factor, and how the process he
used was the same as hospitals use for surgery. This made me feel
very re-assured that I was getting my tattoo in the right place,
not at some beach town in Thailand.
This
looks painful I know, but it actually didn't hurt that much. Besides,
this was a tattoo, so I knew this right of passage was part of the
experience. But I got used to it pretty fast, and Jeremy was talking
to me the whole time, so I hardly noticed I had been sitting there
for almost two hours!.
And
before I knew it, he told me it was done. Wow! I looked in the mirror
and didn't even recognize my leg! It looked like the leg of a rockstar!
I couldn't believe it! What a difference it had made, and honestly,
the regret period I was expecting never came. In fact, I was thinking
about how great it will be when I come back to finish it! He had
to then wrap it for protection and set up a time for me to come back
to finish the shading.
I was so happy that I couldn't help but give Jer a big hug! He was
happy to see that I was so thrilled with my tattoo, and made me feel
so comfortable the entire time. What a fabulous experience! I waved
bye to Jer and Nick and was ready to exit the shop and face the world
as a tattooed member of society.
